For the first meeting, I HIGHLY recommend sending real invitations via mail. This is a special practice these days, only reserved for weddings and graduations. Sending an invitation in the mail shows that this is a serious and special event. A good invitation, once RSVP’d to, will help ensure solid attendance for your first meeting. The invitation I sent out for my first book group meeting was a letter. I sent out 7 letters, and all 7 respondents accepted the invitation and were there on the third Thursday of each month for SIX YEARS. My letter was heartfelt and a little strange. Here it is.
